The enhanced area of snow that was forming this morning did not fully materialize. As our storm system tracks even further south than anticipated, snow totals will be effected as well. As last night’s map shows, a dusting to 1 inch of snow is what I expected across the northern half of the metro area. This area needs to shift down to cover the entire metro area. A minor change for what will end up being an even more minor snow event in the Kansas City metro area.
Our storm system still looks on-track to bring accumulating snows across the area today. My forecast looks on track as well: generally 1-2 inches across most of the metro area with local amounts to 3 inches.
However, I AM keeping an eye to the radar. An area of enhanced snowfall has already developed on the south side of town, and light now is being reported in Olathe and Lees Summit. The band generally lies from Ottawa up to Carrollton and has a slow northward drift. This will have to be monitored closely over the next hour or two for development of a secondary enhanced band of snow that some of our computer models hinted at a few days ago. If this secondary trowal continues to develop, snow totals in this band will be higher.
Another storm system, another chance for snow
Thursday - Mostly cloudy with snow likely. 1-2, maybe 3 inches in the metro. Less to the north. 4-8 inches well south and east. High: 29
Thursday night – Snow ending. Low: 16
Friday - Partly cloudy. High: 32
Saturday - Partly cloudy. High: 40
Sunday - Mostly cloudy with a chance for rain. High: 46
Monday - Mostly cloudy. High: 48
