Warnings and Advisories for Saturday’s storm

Warnings and Advisories issued by the National Weather Service:

An Ice Storm WARNING across Northern Missouri and Northeastern Kansas for accumulations of ice in excess of a quarter inch

A Freezing Rain Advisory allong the I-70 corridor (including the Kansas City Metro Area) for light ice accumulations.

As I said in the podcast, we will likely see light freezing rain begin around 3am in the Kansas City Metro area. Temperatures should warm above freezing during the first part of the morning, ending the threat for freezing precipitation in the city. In fact, the warm air will likely push temperatures into the 50s during the late afternoon.

Further north, the cold air will be slower to leave, and thus, the increased chance for significant ice accumulations across northern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. If you have travel plans that include areas to the north, be advised that road conditions will be very poor on Saturday. If you can avoid traveling, consider doing so. Significant sleet and icing will be the rule along the I-80 corridor as some areas between Omaha and Chicago could pick up an inch or two of sleet.
