Audio Comment – Jeff from Teknokool

Shortwave trough continues to roll through the central plains tonight, kicking of showers across MN and into extreeme northeast NE, and a small area in the OK panhandle. As expected, combination of low moisture, weak convergence, and weak PVA is keeping things dry acrosss KS/MO. Trough axis won’t pass through until morning, so residual cloud cover will likely stick around until the afternoon.

Weak CAA will bring slightly cooler day tomorrow. Models suggest thicknesses dropping off 6-8 Dm off today’s peaks and H850 temps drop ~ 5 degrees. 12z NAM continues to be the warmest model out and was off a good 2 degrees at 0z initialization. As a result, I’m leary of NAM forecasted temps though the period and will side closer to GFS/NGM thermal profiles.

WAA kicks in for a short time again Wednesday night ahead of disorganized disturbance headed though Thursday. Although thermal profile begins to recover, more cloud cover and weaker LLJ will result in a cooler day than today, so have kept temps in mid-upper 50s.

CAA kicks in Thursday night dropping thicknesses below the 530 mark for the first time in quite a while by late Friday. I still have some questions with regards to the strength of the CAA. GFS certainly not as agressive as it was yesterday, so I’ve bumped temps up another couple degrees. Will need to re-evaluate tomorrow to see if mid-upper 40s are warranted.

Another disturbance pushes through the western ridge Sunday night. Cold air in place could spell a little light snow to start off a dramatically cooler week.
