Snow and sleet tapering off

It looks as though we won’t see any additional large-scale development of sleet and snow this afternoon. A wedge of dry air has worked in from the southwest, and is effectively cutting off our precipitation. One heavier band of sleet and snow extends from Lawrence through the north side of town.  Areas toward St. Joseph will see a few hours of sleet and snow early this afternoon.

For the rest of us, outside of some stray flurries or sleet the first part of the storm is done. The next part comes in tomorrow, when we could see some light snow.

Sleet/snow mix to start the day

Many of us woke up to snow and ice covered roads this morning as the first wave of precipitation moves through. With this first wave, the majority of the precipitation remains generally south of I-35 and I-70.

Periods of sleet, mixed with some snow, will continue across the area through the day and into this evening. If we get periods of heavy sleet, road conditions will deteriorate rapidly.
